More Than Words®
 A Parent Program for Autistic and Late-Talking Children

At All Things Speech, we are excited to offer the More Than Words® program, designed to empower parents of young autistic children or those with social communication challenges. Led by our Hanen-certified therapist, this evidence-based program provides families with practical strategies to support their child’s communication, interaction, and social development in everyday routines.

 

Who is this program for?

More Than Words® is ideal for parents of children aged five and under who:

• Are autistic or show signs of social communication difficulties

• Use few or no words to communicate

• Have trouble engaging with others or participating in back-and-forth interactions

• Prefer playing alone rather than with others

 

How will this help my child?

• When coached by an SLP, parents can be just as effective as SLPs in supporting their child’s communication—and in some areas, like understanding language and grammar, they may be even more effective.

• Parent-implemented therapy ensures that strategies are used consistently in naturalistic, everyday interactions, leading to meaningful progress.

• Over time, this approach can reduce the need for ongoing therapy as parents gain the skills to support their child’s development independently.

What will you learn?

Through interactive group sessions and individual consultations, parents will gain:

• A deeper understanding of how their child communicates and interacts

• Strategies to encourage meaningful communication during everyday activities

• Techniques to help their child expand their play skills and social connections

• Ways to create opportunities for communication at home

 

Program Structure

• 8 Small Group Sessions: Parents meet with our Hanen-certified therapist to learn strategies through discussions, videos, and hands-on activities.

• Individual Consultations: Each family receives one-on-one coaching and feedback based on their child’s unique communication style.

• Practical, Everyday Approach: Strategies are designed to be used in daily routines—mealtime, playtime, bath time, and more—so learning feels natural and engaging.
